The English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) for undergraduate studies is for students who have narrowly missed the English language requirements for direct entry into their chosen Monash University undergraduate degree.

Classes will prepare you for successful study during your degree through improving your skills in academic reading, writing, speaking, listening, note-taking and research.

After successful completion of this course, you will meet the English Language requirements for your Monash University undergraduate degree.

Course duration

There are two options for the ELBP for undergraduate studies, depending on your English test scores:

• 15 week program
• 10 week program

Study load

The weekly study load is 35 hours with:

• 20 hours tuition in class hours
• 15 hours independent study outside class hours (including five hours in the Independent Learning Centre)

To enter the Monash University ELBP for undergraduate studies you must have received a conditional offer and meet the following minimum requirements.

15-week program

• IELTS: Overall 5.5, writing 5.0 (no band lower than 5.0)
• TOEFL paper-based: 527, TWE 4.0
• TOEFL iBT: Overall 71, writing 17 (no section lower than 13).

10-week program

• IELTS: Overall 5.5, writing 6.0 (no band lower than 5.0)
• TOEFL paper-based: 527, TWE 4.5
• TOEFL iBT: Overall 71, writing 20 (no section lower than 13).

Your letter of offer will tell you when your course starts and how long it will last. Your current English test scores will determine whether you are offered a 10 or 15 week program.

After you successfully complete ELBP for undergraduate studies, you will have:

• how to undertake a literature review
• how to take notes from readings and lectures
• how to take part in seminar presentations

The ELBP program meets the English language requirements for entry into most undergraduate courses at Monash University. However, there are some individual courses with more specific entry criteria.
