Introductory Academic Program (IAP)

The Introductory Academic Program (IAP) is an exciting, full-time program over five weeks that provides intensive academic skills training. The program will also prepare you for academic, cultural and social life at Monash University and introduce you to cultural conventions in Australia.

Classes focus on academic skills, preparing students for the reading, writing, speaking, listening, note taking and research that they will undertake at Monash University.

Course duration

  • 5 weeks.

Study load

The weekly study load is 35 hours with:

  • 20 hours tuition in class hours
  • 15 hours independent study outside class hours (including five hours in the Independent Learning Centre).

Location

This course is for undergraduate and postgraduate students with a full offer to Monash University.

During the Introductory Academic Program (IAP) course, you will increase your confidence in your academic skills and your control of the English language for study purposes.

After you successfully complete the course, you will have skills in:

  • information literacy
  • knowledge management
  • note taking from readings and lectures
  • academic reading skills
  • journal article analysis
  • literature review

The IAP program helps better prepare students for their future studies at Monash University.
