Monash English Bridging (MEB) is ideal if you have met the academic requirements for Monash College or Monash University, but have narrowly missed the English requirements.

This course will help you develop the English language and academic skills needed for Diplomas, undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degrees of research courses at Monash.

A supportive learning environment will give you lots of opportunities to receive feedback. This will help you improve your skills so you are ready to succeed.

MEB offers students direct entry into Monash College and Monash University.* Students who successfully complete the Bridging program do not need more testing.

Course Structure

Entry requirements: Check the Monash English Bridging entry requirements. If you are eligible for MEB you will receive a conditional offer.

Duration: Multiple course lengths up to 20 weeks.

Start dates: Aligned to Diploma and University start dates.

Campus: Clayton. 

Class timetable: Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 12.45pm or 12.45–5pm. You will be assigned morning or afternoon classes to provide time for study and language development.

Contact hours: 35 hours per week. 20 hours of classroom tuition plus 15 hours of independent learning.

Monash English Bridging for Diplomas

If you're preparing for a Monash College Diploma, MEB will help you develop skills in:

  • tutorial discussions
  • listening and note-taking
  • oral presentations
  • academic phrasing
  • identifying and understanding information.

We believe that you learn best by doing. During your MEB studies, you will do lots of practical tasks so you can experience what we teach you. This will make sure you know what to expect when you start your Monash College Diploma.

Where to next?

After you successfully complete MEB, you can move directly into your Diploma.


Monash English Bridging for undergraduate degrees

If you're preparing for a Monash University undergraduate degree, MEB will help you apply your English language skills to an academic setting. We will help you gain a deeper understanding of the English language. You will do practical tasks that give you lots of experience before you start your degree. Study on campus at Clayton and become familiar with the University.

The program will teach you how to:

  • find and record information
  • evaluate research articles
  • organise information and manage a research process
  • analyse new information and ask relevant questions
  • use language specific to your chosen degree.

After you successfully complete MEB, you can move directly into your Monash University undergraduate degree.*


Monash English Bridging for postgraduate degrees and higher degrees of research

MEB will prepare you for the level of English expected during your postgraduate degree or higher degree of research. The practical learning and assignments will develop your language and academic skills so you are ready to start your studies. Study on campus at Clayton and become familiar with the University.

You will develop your skills in:

  • tutorial discussions
  • research essays
  • oral presentations
  • generating questions and hypotheses
  • finding and recording information from sources
  • writing in a specific academic style.

Where to next?

After you successfully complete MEB, you can move directly into your Monash University postgraduate degree or higher degree of research.*

There is no need to be nervous about sitting the IELTS test. We have workshops to help you practice and develop the skills you need to sit the test. We even have an IELTS testing centre on campus to make it easy when you need to be tested.
