Making friends

The friendships you make at Monash College will stay with you long after you finish studying.

Remember – you are not alone

When you first arrive you may feel a little lonely, but its ok – you're not alone. Many students in your course have also travelled to Australia by themselves. They too will be away from their family and friends for the first time.

Give yourself time to settle in

Get to know your new home. Melbourne is a fantastic place to explore. A bit of adventure will help you ease your nervousness.

Attend orientation

In your very first week at Monash College, there is an organised orientation program. Make sure you attend. This program has been designed to help new students get to know each other. It will be your first chance to make the friends you will have forever.

Discover your new city

Melbourne is a lively city. There's always something exciting happening. Take some time to visit the many galleries, exhibitions, cafes and shopping precincts that Melbourne has to offer. You will discover all sorts of local secrets.

Join a team

They may be watching, playing or simply discussing, but Australians love their sport! If you used to play sport at home, why not join a sporting team while you are here? Or it could be a new thing to try. Maybe ask one of your classmates if they would like to join with you or even start your own team!

Take up a hobby

Future friends can find each other through a shared hobby. The Monash Short Course Centre runs short courses with discounts for Monash students. Courses include dancing, photography and ceramics.
