Become a host
Homestay involves more than providing food and shelter to a student. As a host you will experience the rewards of welcoming a young person to Australia and seeing your own culture from a fresh perspective.
At Monash our Homestay service is run via Monash College. The College works to provide homes for both Monash University and Monash College students.
Share your knowledge
In your home, a student will get a close-up experience of Australian culture, customs and cuisine. Every day your student will be surrounded by authentic English as they get involved in genuine conversation, learning all the time.
Broaden your horizons
The benefits of homestay are not just for students. You will form friendships with people from all over the world. By sharing stories the whole family will learn about another culture first hand.
Our hosts receive $588 for a full fortnight's stay from January 2017. If your student stays for less than a week, you will be paid pro rata at the rate of $42 per night. Hosts are paid by direct deposit into their nominated bank account on a fortnightly payment schedule (pdf, 57kb).
The Homestay Manual (pdf, 760kb) is a valuable reference for a new host.Even experienced hosts will keep returning to this useful manual.
Homestay Placement Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
The Homestay Placement Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (pdf, 261kb) outlines the duties and obligations of both Homestay Accommodation Services (HAS) and the Homestay Host.
When you register with HAS you will be given two copies of the MOU. Before we can place a student with you, each member of your household aged 18 and over must read the MOU and sign one copy. Post these back to the HAS office.
If you have any questions about the MOU, please call us on 9905 8326 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
