Kicking goals: historic victory for our futsal champion
For the first time in Monash College history, our students won the 2019 Intervarsity Futsal Tournament.
Ten students competed at the Eastern Indoor Sports, Knoxfield on Friday 14 June, in two teams against students from other colleges, TAFE and universities from across Melbourne. In the record win for Monash College, our ‘A team’ was undefeated and our ‘B team won three games before being eliminated.
“It was a thrilling day that kept us on the edge of our seats cheering,” said Nicole Ng, Student Engagement Coordinator. “It was fantastic to see our students come together as a strong team.”
During an exciting day of fierce competition Muhammad Khurram, Diploma of Engineering said, “What a great feeling, when the last whistle blew and crowd cheered, ‘Champion! Champion! Champion!’.”
Most valuable player on the field Ayumu Matsushita said: “I am feeling very happy because we won the championship. It was a very good experience because I could play futsal with students from different countries.”
Ziang (Gavin) Chen, Monash English student who also competed in the tournament said: “I think it was a difficult adventure but we made it. We tried our best and we won!”
Congratulations to our futsal superstars and staff for kicking goals and taking out the trophy.
