David joined Monash University in 2005 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. Until his retirement in late 2017, he led financial planning and budgeting, corporate accounting, financial services, business strategy, major projects, funding and investments of the domestic and international operations of the university.
Previously, David held senior positions at Telstra in the areas of finance, strategy, mergers and acquisitions, human resources, IT and engineering. He also headed key projects in Pay TV, superannuation and offshore entities. He gained experience as a company director on the boards of various technology and communications organisations including international joint ventures.
The major focus of his role was to ensure the financial sustainability of the University in order to enable the funding of its educational and research goals in a volatile economic and political environment. This means ensuring that all of the various elements of the University contribute to the overall success of Monash.
He is an active member of University and Faculty foundations and takes a keen interest in the educational and research directions of Monash. He is a board member of Monash's various offshore entities and also of various of its domestic subsidiaries, including Monash Investment Holdings, Monash Accommodation Services (Chair) and Monash College.
David joined our board in 2009.
