Part 1 of the course provides you with the maths and science theory and practical skills required for university study. In part 2, you will have the option to choose a specialisation or stream:
The stream you choose will depend on whether you want to study engineering or IT at university. You will study subjects such as Applied Mathematics, Computing for Engineers, Data Management, and Computers and Networks.
Five reasons to choose the Diploma of Engineering:
- A pathway into second year of an engineering or IT degree at Monash University*.
- Learn on campus at Monash Clayton and interact with current students.
- You want to study engineering or IT and would like to make a start on your future degree.
- Receive individual attention – benefit from small class sizes and learning support.
- Study the same curriculum and assessments as first year undergraduate students.
Diploma of Engineering course structure
Part 1 consists of two trimesters over eight months. Study four core subjects that will prepare you for your stream in part 2.
Choose your stream: Engineering or Information Technology.
You'll study the same curriculum and complete the same assessments as first year undergraduate students. Classes will help you develop your critical thinking skills and university research techniques. These skills will prepare you for success at Monash University.
Assessment consists of group projects, oral presentations, poster presentations, tutorial assessments and
Part 2 consists of three trimesters over 12 months. During your first trimester you can choose one elective depending on your interests and the degree you wish to apply for. For your second and third trimesters, choose five electives to complete over eight months.
Fast-track your Engineering studies
Start the Diploma of Engineering in October and you could fast-track and complete your Diploma in just eight months. You will be ready to start Monash University in July. You must have met the required scores to enter a first year undergraduate engineering degree to be considered for the T3 Fast-Track program.
