Professional skills for global careers

More than ever, businesses and organisations are internationalising their workplace culture. The Global Professionals Program (GPP) is a short study abroad experience that builds key global perspectives and skills for students’ future careers.

The Global Professionals Program offers four balanced weeks of study, each with a different focus. Learning outcomes will be achieved through engaging discussions, team projects, presentations, producing videos, and practicing observation and reflection skills.

During the program students will experience life in Melbourne, an exciting multicultural city, and they will gain exposure to staff and students at Monash, a world top 100 university.

The Global Professional Program is designed as 4 independent one-week topic areas. The program can be taken over 2, 3 or 4 weeks.

The program is delivered by Monash Professional Pathway trainers. They have significant industry experience and excel in preparing students and graduates for career entry.

English language classes can be incorporated into the program before or after the program for a more comprehensive international experience.

The program is delivered during the summer and winter vacation periods of Monash University, Monday to Friday and typically involves 4-6 hours of study per day.

Topic 1: Professional skills

The focus is developing employability skills that young graduates need in today’s corporate world.

Professional skills sessions provide a deeper understanding of effective communication, team work and collaboration as well as critical, analytical and reflective thinking.

Topic 2: Global perspectives

Provides participants an introduction to Australia’s people, economy, history and an appreciation of its place in the world.

Sessions explore the concept of brand and examine case studies of global brands adapting to local markets. Across the unit, participants work in teams, reflect on their learnings and present their insights on Australia in the global context.

Topic 3: Company, culture and career

Focus on how participants can progress their career by identifying their unique personal brand, their career motivators and the sort of company culture they want to be a part of. Participants assess their own level of cultural intelligence, analyse the elements of company culture, and deepen their learning through case studies, research, a company visit and a team presentations.

Topic 4: Project week

Participants develop their entrepreneurial, problem solving and collaboration skills by going through all the steps involved in bringing a new product to the Australian market and then competitively pitching their idea.

Across the week, products teams work together researching, gathering, analysing and presenting data to come up with the most convincing product pitch.
