Introductory Academic Program

The Introductory Academic Program (IAP) introduces you to the self-directed study style you'll need at Monash University. Classes focus on developing your confidence and critical thinking skills, which will prepare you for reading, writing and research tasks at the University.

You can study IAP if you have met the academic and English language entry requirements of your Monash degree. You will study at the Clayton campus so you can explore the cultural and social life at the University.

After completing IAP, you will have skills in:

  • critical thinking, evaluation and reflection
  • university research
  • academic reading
  • editing and proofreading
  • referencing and citation.

"The Introductory Academic Program is great. It taught us how the university works, and improved our reading, writing and speaking skills. We experienced different types of skills like debating, presenting, poster presentations and doing research work. Even though it's only five weeks, I have so many skills that I need for my studies at Monash University."
