Foundation Year – standard
The Standard Foundation Year is our most popular program. It offers the widest choice of subjects and prepares you for entry into any of Monash University’s 10 faculties.
After completing the program and meeting the required entry scores, you will gain guaranteed entry into the first year of a Monash University degree.

Program structure
The Standard Foundation Year is delivered over two semesters. Each semester you will complete a minimum of 4 units, one of which must be English. Each unit has five contact hours per week, providing consistent academic support and engagement with teachers.
The program’s flexible structure allows you to select your units based to meet any pre-requisite requirements of your intended Monash University degree and many others.

Assessment
You will receive continuous feedback throughout your studies. Assessments include assignments, tests, presentations, lab investigations, group projects and reports. By week four, you will complete your first assessment and receive feedback to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Most units are graded primarily on assessments completed during the course, helping you track progress and stay focused on achieving your study goals.

To apply for the Foundation Year, you will need to satisfy academic entry requirements, English language requirements, as well as age and citizenship requirements.
Entry into a Monash University undergraduate destination degree
When you successfully complete the Monash Foundation Year (and meet the required academic score along with any applicable prerequisites), you will gain guaranteed entry into the first year of your chosen Monash University undergraduate degree.

To be eligible for entry, you must also:
- Be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrolment in your Monash University undergraduate destination degree.
- Meet any specific age requirements for degrees that involve clinical placements.
If you do not meet the minimum age requirement at the time of enrolment, you may be offered a deferred place until you become eligible. Please ensure you review the minimum age requirements for your chosen Monash University degree, especially those with clinical placement components.
