Scams can happen to anyone, anywhere. The best way to protect yourself is to be educated and aware. By completing this module, you’ll learn how to identify common scams, report the incidents and access support services quickly. Our ‘Stop-Think-Check-Report’ approach makes it easy to remember the steps to protect yourself.

Monash has released a new Scam Prevention Module to help you identify scams, report incidents and access support services. The module provides essential tips and interactive learning based on real-life cases, specifically those targeted to international students.

Who should complete it?

We strongly recommend all international students complete this module. It’s not compulsory, but it’s a smart move to stay safe and informed. So, dive in, get informed, and stay scam-savvy.

Scam prevention module FAQs

This Module is not compulsory and will not be graded. It is separate from any faculty and Moodle modules or quizzes required by your course. However, we strongly recommend you complete this module to learn about common scam types and how you can protect yourself and others.

As the International Student Scam Prevention Module is not compulsory, there is no set deadline. However, we strongly recommend you complete it as soon as possible to be informed about recent common scams and learn top tips to avoid being scammed.

Monash College students have been scammed in the past. These scams happen to people all around the world, and some particularly target international students. Even one Monash student is too many, which is why we have prepared this information to help students protect themselves.
If you suspect or believe you have been scammed or your identity compromised, contact your bank immediately to freeze your account. Report the incident to Monash Security immediately at 9902 7777 or security@monash.edu for tailored guidance and support on your next step.
