Change of residency and citizenship status
International to domestic (permanent residency)
If you change from any temporary visa (including a student visa) to an Australian Permanent Resident Visa (APRV), you need to notify us within 14 days and this is a government requirement.
Your change of status date is in your Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) statement, and your visa grant letter (it's not the date on your original application).
You can notify us of your change of residency status by contacting Student Administration.
How this will affect your fees?
If you've already started your course
If you’ve already started your course, changing from international to domestic will reduce your course fees. If you submit the change of residency status notification by contacting both Admissions and Student Administration:
- before 11.59pm (Melbourne time) on the census date, your fees will be reduced for the current semester
- after the census date, your fees won’t change until the following semester.

If you haven’t started your course
If your residency status changes before you start your course, you may need to reapply for the course. Get in touch with Admissions on +61 3 9903 4788.
Becoming an Australian citizen
If you become an Australian citizen, you need to let us know immediately so we can update your student record. It will also mean that you're eligible for a government HELP loan.
You can notify us of your change of citizenship status by contacting Student Administration.
International student – change of visa
If you hold a temporary visa, student visa or New Zealand Permanent Resident Visa and your visa type changes, you should let us know immediately so we can update your student record.
