Monash College is proud to announce Journal as its newest purpose-built student accommodation provider for all Monash U18 students, demonstrating its commitment to student safety and wellbeing, and ensuring that students have a respectful, inclusive and safe environment beyond the classroom and campus.
From September 2026, Monash U18 students can secure accommodation at two Journal locations in the heart of Melbourne: Campus House at 172 Bouverie Street, Carlton, and Market Way at 100 Franklin Street, Melbourne CBD.
A place to feel at home
Journal is more than the typical student living accommodation space: it is designed to inspire creativity, community and connection, giving students somewhere to feel at home from day one. Each property is uniquely designed and inspired by its local culture, with distinctive architecture and light-filled spaces in prime locations close to universities and pathway colleges.
Life at Journal extends well beyond the room. Students have access to shared spaces for studying, exercising, cooking, relaxing and socialising, alongside a year-round calendar of events and activities that help build a genuine sense of community.
Monash Under 18 students can book any single-occupancy room type at both properties, including Studios and Suites. At Market Way, students also have access to Two-Bedroom Ensuite and Three-Bedroom Ensuite apartments, where each resident has their own private bedroom and ensuite.

Dedicated support for under 18 students
Journal runs a dedicated Under 18s Program, providing additional support, safety and connection for younger residents. This includes tailored orientation and induction, clear U18 rules and curfew requirements, secure building and room access, and 24/7 onsite staff. Journal also runs dedicated Under 18s events and activities, giving younger residents opportunities to meet other students, make friends and build a sense of belonging within the Journal community.
A shared commitment to safety, wellbeing to gender-based violence prevention and response
The College and Journal share a strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of residents
At Journal, there is no place for gender-based violence at their sites, or anywhere, and this commitment underpins how Journal operates across its properties. Journal's Whole-of-Organisation Prevention and Response Plan meets the requirements of the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence 2025, setting out a unified approach to leadership and accountability, transparent reporting, inclusive consultation, effective support and continuous improvement.
As part of their commitment, Journal staff undertake trauma-informed, triage and risk assessment training to support the receiving and management of disclosures, and all disclosures are escalated to senior management for further action. Student leaders also receive education on recognising concerning behaviours, responding to disclosures and escalating concerns. Ahead of arrival, residents complete an online module as part of the Journal Guide, with a refresher issued after 12 months.
Residents, staff and visitors can submit disclosures or formal reports – named or anonymous – via the Journal website or Resident Portal. On-site staff are available 24/7, and buildings are secured with speed gates and key-card access to control entry throughout the building.
This partnership also complements the College's own ongoing work under the National Code, as the College continues to strengthen its prevention, response and support approach in consultation with students and staff.
"Student safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do at Monash College," said Dr Lisa Interligi, Interim CEO, Monash College.
"Journal has been selected as a Monash accommodation provider because of our genuine shared commitment to ensure safe and thriving spaces for students to learn, to study and to live. We have a proactive, organisation-wide commitment to the prevention of gender-based violence.”
