Monash College Diplomas students undertake the Mini Monash Innovation Guarantee (MIG) Masterclass
More than 200 students participated in the Mini Monash Innovation Guarantee (MIG) in March 2025, which delved into real-world professional skills. Read the recap.
In March 2025, more than 200 Monash Diplomas students participated in the Mini Monash Innovation Guarantee (MIG) Masterclass, which provides a taste of a flagship student experience that delves into critical real-world professional skills, with authentic links to industry leaders and experts.
Delivered by the Student Experience Portfolio at Monash University under the banner of Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE), the Mini MIG Masterclass is a sector-leading program that gives students guaranteed industry training and experience – and a first for the College – with the opportunity to network with some of the world’s leading organisations and innovators. No application, prior experience or interviews required.

Specifically tailored for the College’s Diplomas students, the Mini MIG Masterclass explored critical skill areas of innovation, creative thinking, human-centred design and networking.

In the first session, Nathaniel Diong, Founder & CEO, Future Minds Network, 2021 Young Australian of the Year, finalist and Monash University alumni, led the cohort through concepts of innovation skills and mindsets, with a focus on human-centred design – a powerful approach that ensures ideas have real impact, which is an often-overlooked skill is highly valued by employers.
The second session was delivered by Jahin Tanvir, Co-Founder and CEO of the Australian School of Entrepreneurship (ASE), and 2022 Young Australian of the Year finalist, who passionately explored the power of networking – an essential skill linked to employability and long-term career success.

At the end of each session, students had the opportunity to put their knowledge into action – and test their networking skills – with a range of industry leaders from major organisations such as Microsoft, Sustainability Victoria, KPMG, The Substation, Australian Climate Services, and the Jia Collective.
Students who participated were highly positive about the Mini MIG experience, expressing that they found it inspiring, practical, fun, relevant and unique, and built real and evident confidence. Of those who provided feedback, over 80% of students felt more confident in collaborating with others and felt more confident in embracing their curiosity, thereby supporting the efficacy of the program.
Learning experiences such as the Mini MIG are designed to reinforce the deep connection and collaboration between the College and the University to provide an immersive and distinctive end-to-end experience for our students.
