Monash College and Universal College Lanka celebrate 10 year partnership in Sri Lanka
Monash College recently marked a decade-long partnership with Universal College Lanka (UCL) at a special alumni celebration in Colombo.

Since 2015, the collaboration has created a pathway for Sri Lankan students to access a Monash education, with many graduates progressing to study at Monash campuses in Australia and Malaysia. Over the past decade, the partnership has empowered hundreds of students to pursue global study opportunities while continuing to make an impact locally.
At a special alumni event at Cinnamon Life in Colombo, Monash leaders, UCL colleagues and distinguished guests including His Excellency Mr Matthew Duckworth, Australia’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, joined alumni to reflect on the achievements of the past decade and to look ahead to the future.
Fabian Marrone, Vice-President (Marketing, Admissions and Communications) at Monash University and Monash College Chief Executive said the anniversary highlighted the strength of Monash’s partnerships in South Asia and the important role they play in expanding access to world-class education.
“This milestone is not only about celebrating a successful partnership, but also about recognising the extraordinary contributions of our Sri Lankan alumni. Their leadership in business, education, health, government and community life reflects the global influence of Monash graduates,” Mr Marrone said.
Dr Chamila Ariyananda, Chief Executive Officer from Universal College Lanka (UCL) said the partnership continues to open new doors for Sri Lankan students seeking a globally recognised qualification while remaining connected to their local community.
“We began our journey 10 years ago with Monash, a globally renowned leader in education. Guided by Monash’s vision for quality outcomes, their academic excellence has shaped UCL’s winning strategy in Sri Lanka’s dynamic higher education space. Our strong partnership continues to pave the way for an extraordinary journey ahead,” Dr Ariyananda said.
Monash is ranked in the world’s top 50 universities and is Australia’s largest, with more than 95,000 students from 170 countries across 8 campuses in 4 countries. Its alumni community now exceeds 500,000 graduates in 150 countries, with Sri Lankan alumni contributing significantly to national development and global industries.
For more than 30 years, Monash College has delivered transformative pathway programs to over 80,000 students across the Asia Pacific region. The Colombo celebration marked 10 years of partnership between Monash College and Universal College Lanka, underscoring Monash’s strong and enduring presence in Sri Lanka and its commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation of students.
