  1. Stay calm.
  2. Follow instructions of the Emergency Wardens.
  3. Do not use lifts.

IMPORTANT: The Chief Warden and Floor Wardens have the authority to delegate duties and control the evacuation process.

Alert Tone / Evacuation Tone: Prepare to evacuate

General

  1. Upon hearing the alert tone "BEEP, BEEP", prepare to evacuate.
  2. Stop all activities and listen to instructions.
  3. Gather personal belongings e.g. wallet, keys.
  4. Do not evacuate unless directed or if the evacuation tone “EVACUATE NOW” starts.

Teaching Staff

  1. Secure equipment in use.
  2. Stand by evacuation WIP, reassure students.
  3. Evacuate when the "EVACUATE NOW" tone begins.
  4. Instruct staff/students to exit in orderly fashion.
  5. Instruct all staff/students to proceed to emergency exit and assembly point.
  6. Ensure all occupants leave the room.
Role or SystemResponsibilities and Information
Assisting People with DisabilitiesAsk if help is required. Assist person to nearest fire safe area. Refer to the "Specific Needs" section in this booklet.
Visitors, Delegates, and Teaching StaffMust be evacuated by Monash College staff. Teaching Staff are responsible for evacuating teaching spaces.
Chief WardenCoordinate evacuation and delegate duties. Has authority during evacuations until Emergency Services arrive. At the completion of the emergency, must complete an evacuation report in SARAH.
Floor WardenEvacuate site and direct staff/students and visitors to secure areas.
First AiderObtain portable First Aid kit if available and provide first aid where appropriate.
Cascading Alarm SystemInitially only the fire affected floor goes into alarm, then each level above and below goes into alarm every 5 minutes. Staff and students should only evacuate or prepare to evacuate when the alarm or evacuation tone sounds on their floor or as directed by the Wardens.
Assembly AreaPrimary assembly point: Docklands Community Hub Reserve. Secondary assembly point: Corner of Fishplate Lane and Village Street. All building occupants must evacuate to the primary assembly point unless advised otherwise.

Do not re-enter until safe to do so, and authorised by Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) or a Chief Warden.

The de-activation of the evacuation tone is not an indication to re-enter a building.
