Monash College celebrates success at English Australia Conference and Awards 2026
Monash College staff were recognised for outstanding contributions to English language teaching at the 2026 English Australia Conference and Awards, held from 16 to 18 September at Pullman East Melbourne.
Four College staff members took home awards at the English Australia Gala Dinner:
- Gabriella Lawson, Teacher, English Language, won the John Gallagher Award for ELICOS Sector Contribution
- Ruth Hellema, Senior Learning Experience Designer (Assessment), received the Christine Bundesen AM Grant
- Sonour Esmaeili and Samaneh Eskandari, both Teachers, English Language, shared the Pearson Contribution to Professional Practice award.
The College also had a strong showing among this year's finalists, with staff recognised across the Academic Leadership Award, the Award for Innovation and the Award for Action Research.
At the conference, themed 'Stories of Transformation', 18 College staff presented or took part in poster sessions – sharing insights and research with colleagues from across the sector.
Matt Carter, Executive Director, Education, congratulated the winners and finalists: "These awards reflect the calibre of teaching and expertise within our English language team. Our staff are central to delivering on our promise to students – preparing them with the academic foundations and confidence they need to succeed at Monash University and beyond. This recognition from the sector is a testament to their dedication and to the excellence they bring to our students every day."
